Ski Adventures in Canada

05-03-11

When planning a ski vacation, travelers usually look for a few important features. First, they want to know that there will be snow — and preferably not man-made. Second, they want the ski resort to be easy to reach, so proximity to a major airport or urban center is important. Third, they want to know that there will be other people around to share the experience, but not so many that they have to wait in long lift lines or maneuver crowded slopes.

Canada may not be the first destination that comes to mind with regards to international ski vacations, but perhaps it should. It meets all of the above considerations while offering some amazing slopes that rival some of the best in Europe. Some mountains are world-class, having hosted world championship and even Olympic events .

In addition to skiing, Canada offers a variety of winter sports. Snowboarding, heliskiing, snowmobiling, and ice skating are popular with both locals and visitors. Most ski resorts provide lessons and equipment for a variety of sports and, given the climate, can usually guarantee plenty of fresh powder throughout the winter. Best of all, the Canadian slopes are usually less crowded than resorts in the US and Europe.

Great Canada ski vacations can be had in Alberta, Quebec, and British Columbia. Alberta in particular is home to the site of the 1988 Winter Olympics and the Canadian Alps region of the Rocky Mountains.
